The Joint Chiefs of Staff - Is That Going Too Far?

The head of the war department in the past was, I would say a more powerful political position than it is today. The joint chiefs of staff's actual job is advisory; they don't actually control troops in combat. Combatant commanders own these massive bureaucracies that are regionally focused and transregional. They're responsible for things that we're doing in an environment.
