What's the Difference Between Good and Bad Demagoguery?
Good demagoguery goes outside of the constitutional system in order to protect and advance the constitutional system, like Chase would do. Bad Demagoguery just sort of exists as an end in itself; it's used to compensate for lack of a deeper argument. So I contrast Scalia with Chase. And by the way, these case studies zero in on specific aspects of the characters that I look at,. They're not meant to be exhaustive treatments of the, you know, political careers and legacies of the people I look at.
