Kerr gives dozens of detailed examples of enterprises being taken over and run into the ground. When no longer working, dismantled and carted away to be sold as scrap metal. Factory after factory simply disappeared. Kerr even has a minor but telling example of KMT misrule related to books. Some newcomers were unfortunate enough to be assigned to administrative jobs which were not directly associated with production and commerce. They had to devise their own ways of milking the economy. This was necessary state socialism in its developed form and the ultimate cause of the 1947 rebellion.
