The History of Positive Realism
There's a long history of distinctively philosophical sorts of critiques of realism. The interesting thing about what happened in physics in the 20th century was that there was supposed to be this radically different and unprecedented kind of critique of realism coming from the physics itself. They thought that what's usually thought of in philosophy is what you might call a militantly instrumentalist approach to science was the only available one.
