The Importance of Apologies

The downside of a strong link between apologies and forgiveness is that victims often feel pressured to forgive before they're ready. The apologizer, the transgression in the situation, might put expectations on the victim to forgive them once they've apologized. And you have to give the victim space to forgive. Maybe that forgiveness will never come depending on how severe this offense is or how damaged the relationship is.
