Jim Butcher has written four billion words about the Second World War. The book is set in 1943, and follows a cast of characters from Sicily to Rome. He says he wanted to move away from relying on oral testimonies given 50 years after the event. But that can be unreliable because perspectives change as you get older,. And I decided to kind of sort of challenge myself and try and write it in the moment.
