How Did You Get Into the Cultural and Social History of War?

How did you get into the cultural and social history of war? And what led you to decide i want to investigate myth formation, not as much after the war per se, but also during the war. I want to give you, as americans would say, a slow pitch right over the middle of the plate to start off. Because it's always interesting how historians got into topics that they end up studying.
