The Act of Oblivion
The Act of Oblivion effectively was the deal struck between Parliament and the exile to Charles. They decided that they needed to invite him back or invite the stewards back to give them some stability. Once Cromwell was taken out of the picture, it was nothing to hold it together. The only exception to this sweetness and light was anyone who'd had a hand in the death of the king. Everyone was let off apart from a small group. And about 15 of them were hanged, drawn and quartered.
