The History of Pizza
In 1905, the first pizzeria was opened in New York and it was called Lombardi's. A total of 13 million Italians emigrated from southern Italy or Sicily between 1880 and 1914. The United States needed more workers to construct buildings after the Civil War. Pizza remained within this Italian group until after World War II when some American soldiers who were stationed in different countries in Europe learned about pizza.
