Is It a Pyramid Scheme?
There's a kind of appeal to the unknowable possibility of what could still be out there. The natural world is full of molecules that have potential applications and are being studied. But when you look at the pipe line of drug development, it starts with a lot of potential in invitro studies but then fewer of them make it to animal studies. And so you end up with this pyramid shaped ino funnel where we may see some very interesting results which will never translate into a useful drug in humans.
