The Left-Right Idea in American Politics

There was no use of a political spectrum in American politics or at least no public use of it that I'm aware of, you know, in journalism or among presidential speeches or anything like that until the 1920s. So what happened? Yeah, yeah. The problem is unit dimensionality quickly gave way to multi dimensionality because new issues became nationalized. And so now it's complicated. You bring in racial issues and affirmative action, you bring an abortion, Roe v. Wade, all these new things coming online and now a one dimensional model doesn't work anymore.
