I was reading an article recently that was talking about people doing calf raises or twitching their calf muscles at their desk. What we call neat is responsible more when you look at it as a component of total calorie burn than people's exercises. I think 20% is attributed to neat and 10% to exercise, whereas most people are kind of laboring under the assumption that if they've got a scheduled session at the gym, that's okay.
