Coded Bias, What Do You Think About Facial Recognition Technology in Law Enforcement?
In Coded Bias, one of the things we see is how facial recognition algorithms work and how they are being used in policing. When these technologies are used in policing, people with darker skin get mismatched more often. It's a very famous case in Michigan where Robert Williams was arrested unfairly because a facial recognition program suggested that his driver's license photo matched the surveillance footage of a shop lifter at a watch store in Detroit. And so her intersectional analysis shows us that these technologies are actually worse or the worst at recognizing darker skinned women.
