In the beginning, I spent 10 years total between Hong Kong and Beijing. And in the beginning, it was really useful. It looked like everybody else. But one thing I noticed over time was that my identity became a liability. China under Xi Jinping has made this claim of claiming the entire Chinese diaspora around the world as their own.
