The Real Laughter Is the Resolution of Anxiety
Laughter is often a defence mechanism. What we call a nervous laugh or laughing someone to scorn can very often be a forced laugh. But the real laugh is, of course, the resolution of anxiety. The anxiety is serious. And anxiety is a state of palpitation of the trembles. Only comes upon us when we cannot decide which way to go and so tremble between alternatives.
