In curved space, a straight line as in like without any curves is not the shortest distance between two points. And so that's why it looks like there's a force that acts on the objects that moves them away from traveling on a straight line. In fact, they are traveling straight in the sense of the shortest distancebetween two points. It only looks that way because of the inaccuracy of the projection.
