The Seven Bridesmaids of the Roman Empire
Capella was writing after the sack of Rome by the Visigoths in 410 AD. He divided learning into seven categories, grammar, dialectic, rhetoric and geometry. In his astronomy he deviates from Ptolemy's geometric model for planets. Capella says that while a superior planet orbits the earth, the inferior planets, Mercury and Venus, orbit the sun. The Roman Empire however, would not last forever.
