The Importance of Concentration Practices
The breath is such a powerful object of concentration for concentration practices. It doesn't only give you that anchor, wherever your mind goes you always come back to the breath. I think in this day and age, it's more important, we need to spend more time there. If you're 15, 20, 40 minutes into a sit following the breath, that bit of time at the top of the inhale is forever. So if you make a commitment to a time, so they might like an incense stick, so they meditate when their eyes are opened, but some people find it too distracting. That gives them the time on which to practice mindfulness.
