Oil exporting governments in the midle east were better able to protect themselves from the arab spring by using oil revenue to fund lavish social aid packages. But these wild fluctuations can be totally disastrous for oil producing countries too. Hets really fascinating and revealing that the commodities market poses so much less systemic risk to the global economic order than the housing market, but pose a far more lethal risk to people's lives.
