The Indus Civilization and Climate Change
The ancient Indus civilization straddles both Pakistan and India. It thrived between 3000 and 2000 BC, but then vanished around 1900 BC. The need for timber to fire the brick kilns of the huge building industry may have led to extensive deforestation. Climate change seems to have caused tributaries of the Indus to change course or to dry up completely. Professor Nyan Jotley-Hiri from Delhi University talks about its importance today.
