Is Russia and Iran Friends of Convenience?

Is there a stronger bond between Iran and Russia? I think on the whole, all these relationships are essentially transactional. Russian and Iranian interests overlap to quite a considerable degree. If Russia is ever in a position where it has to choose between India and China, there's no question which country it'll choose.
