Grenfell was a 24-story block of flats on Latimer Road in Kensington, West London. Behalu Kibedhi had been woken up by his smoke alarm only to find that a fire had started in his kitchen. 72 residents, including 18 children, were killed in the flames and poisonous smoke. Two later died in hospital, and more than 74 were injured. What happened that day was the deadliest residential fire in the UK since the second great fire of London during World War II.
