In 1959, the year she turned 28, Jerry broke two world records. She was named Pilot of the Year by the National Pilots Association. By this point, she had spent 7,000 hours flying planes. And it's around this time that she meets Dr. William Randall Lovelace. He is a scientist that NASA hired to help test and select the first 7 American astronauts.
