Oreo Amazonas - The Amazon River
Francisco de Oriana led a group of conquistadors through the Amazon in 1541. The party split into two groups, one headed west back over the Andes to Quito and another heading east along the Maranjan River. They built Spanish-style brigandines out of trees that they had brought with them on their journey. On August 24th, 1542, the two brigandines emerged from the mouth of the Great River into the Atlantic Ocean. After this expedition, the river would no longer be known as the Maranjans but Oreo Amazonas.
