What Is It About Zirconium Silicate?
Zircon is a zirconium silicate. It incorporates radioactive uranium into its structure. By measuring uranium and lead within the crystal, we can obtain an absolute age. So the zircons that we were interested in studying as part of this study are approach 4 billion years old.
