The Excessive Power of History

The impulse to shift our focus to the victims of history began as an act of justice. To turn the tables and insist that the victim's stories enter the narrative was just part of writing old wrongs. I'd prefer we return to a model in which our claims to authority are focused on what you've done to the world, not what the world did to you. It would allow us to honor caring for victims as a virtue without suggesting that being a victim is one as well.
