The Stone Age Settlement of Skarabre
Orkney is home to the best preserved Neolithic village in western europe it's called Skarabre for many centuries this stone age settlement was hidden from view beneath earthen crusted sand dunes overlooking the beautifully picturesque scale bay. In 1850 a vicious storm peeled away these dunes as earthen tops to reveal Skarra's stone remains today you can go and see the remains of this Neolithic part of it. There are few places in the world that can rival the incredible wealth and variety of stone age art and architecture surviving on ogney 5,000 years ago. Archaeologists still speculate about the purpose of these incredible rock spheres from mace heads to children
