Do You Think Faulkner Saw It as a Novelist?
Faulkner had essentially a second mother, a black woman who brought up all the Faulkner boys in the household. He felt much more comfortable and relaxed among them than he ever did among these prominent Virginians. Do you think his comfort seems to translate into his depictions in fiction as well? It was a subject he didn't shy away from. A lot of white novelists in the 20th century would have just ignored it. But yeah, it's an issue. He took head on.
