The Weightier Commandment

Jephtha asks god for deliverance against his enemies and makes this vow. Lots of questions get raised about whether he actually sacrifices the daughter, but in this conversation, ends at being a really good am. What does it mean to observe the weightier commandment when life hands you situations where two commandments are conflicting? After jephtha, we end up having the story of shimshon. We say samson. We don't. It's not that i haven't bumped into a lot of medrashic teaching or oral tradition around this story. Just means i haven't spent time looking.
