Shakespeare's London was smaller than Evansville, Indiana is today. A lot of economy was coming into it because of Queen Elizabeth's reign and just because of the piece that she brought when she defeated the Spanish Armada. This was kind of at the tail end of the feudal system and the rise of the merchant class.
