Alcohol During Prohibition
The biggest opportunity for smuggling is across water. With many of the more populous and modern cities within a stone's throw from the Atlantic, running rum up the coast becomes a lucrative career. By the end of prohibition, it's reckoned that nearly two billion gallons of whiskey have flowed through the hastily built warehouses on Saint-Pierre-Michelon off the Canadian coast.
