It obscures the sort of through line of sh Shakespeare's actual life and actions that we can reconstruct from surviving documents. So i'm going to do right now something that really any historian ought to do, which is just go back and list out what are the documents that tell us something about shakespeare himself personally,. What do we learn from them? This is very rarely done.
