Is Over Stretching a Good Idea?

In dance, you at least have to have the look of having a straight, straight leg. We're not looking for hyper extended, necessarily, but at least a straight leg. Sometimes that's your bony structure again. It definitely sounds like itt's not what it's cracked up to be. And that you could be thinking, this is such a great idea, but you lose other things in the process quite significantly. Not that it's just not effective for stretching. So is over stretching ever indicated? I've a really hard time thinking of a time when it would be indicated to overstretch.
