In the Greco-Roman world, women were expected to be virgins before marriage and then utterly faithful within marriage. Jesus comes and he says to men, you must be as chaste as women have always been. And that teaching has utterly built our modern world actually from the ground up. Even some foundationally Christian already believe in sex is significant; power should be used to serve.
