Group a Strept Pharyngeal Infections
Group A strep accounts for 5 to 15 percent of tonsillitis in adults, but is much more common in kids ages 5 to 15 years old. Palatal petikii are more commonly associated with group A strept than other etiologies. Patients get one point for each of the following: Tonsillar exudate or swelling, swollen, tender anterior cervical lymph nodes, lack of cough and fever. No further testing or treatment is recommended for a centaur score of zero or one.
