Ambrose Bierce was a Civil War soldier, a newspaper reporter and the brilliant author of Chilling Stories. He led an adventurous life which ended when he ventured into Mexico to meet Pancho Villa - from which he never returned. The human eye is an imperfect instrument, its range is but a few octaves of the real chromatic scale. There are colors that we cannot see. And God help me. The damn thing is of such a color.
