According to legend, the gauchos were originally just lone rangers who would go out to hunt feral cattle for themselves. Not much money stayed where the beef actually came from. This is what people mean when they talk about extractive, exploitative, colonial-type enterprises. The Brazilian steakhouse is as promiscuously pan-ethnic as Brazil itself.
