We decide what we want, and then come up with the reasons to support it. People are more likely to reach for these kinds of rationalizations when they actually like a product. If you show em an unattractive pair of shoes, all of a sudden they become these kind of moral animals. You say, oh, no, it's wrong. But in one case, i feel like i have actually asked for the chicken to be killed. In the other case, the dirty work is ready be done.
