The First Banner Ad on the Internet, Right?
Advertising had kind of popped up on the web, but it really wasn't until the invention of something that's known as programmatic advertising. AT&T paid Wired to put a banner up on their website in the mid-90s. It was just sort of this pixelated banner with the slogan for the ad, encouraging people to click on the ad. The rates of click through on that banner ad were something around the order of 44%.
