A pound of muscle burns about six, maybe a little bit more, but about six calories per day. So, if you were to gain 20 pounds of muscle, you'd be burning an extra 120 or so calories each day. And then something else I should mention is in addition to that, you would have the additional energy expenditure that comes with moving around a heavier body.
