The Legacy of Mungo Park

Mungo Park was the first European to reach the Niger River in West Africa. His travels kickstarted the colonial era in central and west Africa. He helped people understand that Africans were not savages, but just people. The Royal Scottish Geographical Society awards the mongol park medal annually in his honor.
