If gawayne agreed to the marriage, she would tell arthur the answer. In fact, she would sweeten the pot. She would only marry gawaine if the answer was effective in saving arthur's life. Arthur should go back and explain the situation to gawayne. He should be sure to accurately describe all this. We'll see how gawaine responds to this big ask after this.
