The History of the Basque Children's Committee
In theory, the idea was that you should take a certain number of children from each of the main kind of political groups in the Basque country. In practice, it was quite easy to get around that. The National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief would be responsible for raising money and looking after 4,000 children aged between 5 and 15. But by the time the Basque Children's Committee had been formed, there was already a national fundraising campaign underway.
