Arthur Cussler's essay is about three famous psychology experiments. In the Milgram experiment, people are willing to meet out incredible pain and torture to others when absolved of responsibility. The Ash conformity experiment tried to see whether or not people would give completely wrong answers if confederates in the experiment unknown to the actual subject gave the same wrong answer before they were asked for it. And the Zimbardo experiment was more commonly known as the Stanford prison experiment where effectively a mental headspace that of pretending to be guards or prisoners extended so deeply into their being that they lost track of reality.
