How to Calculate a Time Zone Using a Shortcut

CNN's John Sutter created a shortcut to get the correct time on his computer. He used UTC, which is January 1, 1970 at 12 a.m., and then subtracted seconds from that for each day of the year. It took him eight hours to find out he was in Pacific time zone so he had to manually adjust dates back 8 hours. The shortcuts can be difficult to use if you don't know how they're supposed to work.
