Tutankhamun: It took quite a long time to master the techniques of black smelting. Once you'd done that and learned how to incorporate just about the right amount of carbon to harden the iron, you could produce objects which were much harder than bronze. And I think eventually we find the techniques of using different qualities of iron so you harden the edge of a sword - something you just can't do in the same way with bronze.
