The North Carolina Wampus Cat

The Wampus Cat is a half cat, half dog creature capable of running on all fours or upright on its two hind legs. Its eyes have been known to be either yellow or green and the sole piercing gaze has driven people mad. Some places fear it as they do the Santa, while others treat it with a tongue and cheek playfulness. So were these creatures really prowling the North Carolina wilderness and eating livestock with wild abandon? Or were they simply stories told to scare children and drive up newspaper sales? No one knows for sure. But clearly North Carolina is the state where we might find the answers.
