The early Weimar governments would enjoy the support of a vast majority of the electorate. During this period some of the features that the Weimar society would emerge. For example, cities like Berlin had thriving homosexual scenes at a time when many nations forced such activities underground. There was also a strong feminist movement, with more women entering the workplace and asserting their rights through their ability to vote. Both of these would cause a negative reaction from some groups within society,. Many would blame their tolerant attitudes towards groups like the women or homosexuals as the cause. In fact, the overall German birthrate had been in rapid decline since the turn of the century.
