The Immateriality of Narcissism
There's a lot of narcissism in the leadership, particularly of conspiracy theories. Narcissists are wounded easily and it's a wound so deep that it won't heal,. So I think that's one reason. And another reason is that narcissists don't really care about the truth. The truth doesn't matter. The truth is immaterial. How can we spot this stuff? That is a hard question. If it seems too incredible to be true, then check yourself. Do do your own research, but don't just do it online because you will find yourself in a rabbit hole.
