How to Make Money With a Record Label
The way it worked really is that you could end up like essentially making almost nothing off of a hit album, if your contract was bad enough. You don't own any of your music and anytime it gets licensed, somebody else gets money. The way it works is the label has a distributor that distributor sends it out to record stores or they pay the distributor. It's a classic wholesale retail.
